Installing TeamViewer on Xubuntu 1

I have started to install TeamViewer software on my Mining Rigs. I will also offer this option for Rigs I build for my customers if they wish.

TeamViewer allows me to log on to my Rigs over the Internet. I can connect to the console remotely and view the screen as if I am sitting in front of the GUI screen. You can also share your own desktop. This is useful if you are troubleshooting. This was a great feature in my case as I have built several rigs for clients and this will allow me to explain configuration to the them by sharing my desktop. Teamviewer is similar to Remote Assistance or RDP in Windows. The software also works without having to worry about about firewalls, IP addresses and NAT. So no need to have to talk customers through opening ports on their broadband routers.

Although the majority of configuration for Rigs can be done via the console using ssh it is useful to access the GUI directly.

Here are the steps to install TeamViewer for 64bit Xubuntu

wget http://www.teamviewer.com/download/teamviewer_linux_x64.deb

sudo dpkg -i teamviewer_linux_x64.deb
sudo apt-get install -f

All done. You will now find TeamViewer under Internet options in your Start Menu.

And the steps for 32bit Xubuntu:
    wget http://www.teamviewer.com/download/teamviewer_linux.deb
    sudo dpkg -i teamviewer_linux.deb
    sudo apt-get install-f

Basically, just remove _x64 anytime you see it and it reverts to the x86 version. I just tried and verified this worked for me and I’m up and on Teamviewer now
