Another Litecoin Mining Rig Added To My Mining Farm 3

Today I would like to show you another litecoin mining rig that I have built this week. This rig is a different specification to my original rig. I am testing various motherboard and card combinations to try to achieve the maximum hashing rate.

The kit list for this Litecoin Mining Rig is as follows:

1 x CMASTER LAB TEST CASE
2 x 3G GigaByte HD7950 GV-R795WF3-3GD
1 x GigaByte GA-990FXA-UD5 MoTHERBOARD
1 x Sandisk 64GB SSD – Solid State Drive – SDSSDP-064G-G25
1 x 8Gb Corsair DDR3 Vengeance, PC3-12800 (1600),Non-ECC Unbuffered
1 x AMD Sempron 190 Dual Core Processor
1 x CORSAIR 850W PSU Power Supply

I tested various configurations in CGMiner and decided to stick with a tried and tested Linux configuration running XUbuntu. The rig is quite visually appealing in this open case although I have now transferred the components into a Coolmaster XB case for safety reasons. My property is not suitable for Open Rigs.

After this build I would say that Gigabyte Motherboards can be a pain. The reason being that this motherboards network card did not work automatically out the box with 64 bit Linux. After a few hours of searching for solutions online I found that I needed to make a BIOS change to get the NIC card working. To save you folks from going through the pain that I did all you need to do is to Set IOMMU to enabled in the BIOS. Then restart the rig and the NIC card will work. Its unfortunate that Gigabyte cards require this change. MSI Motherboards work out the box without needing to tweak the BIOS. I think I will stick to MSI Motherboards from now on. I will however be carrying out a Crate install with an AS Rock 970 Extreme4 motherboard next week so I will report my findings with this board.

Litecoin Mining Rig Build Service for UK RESIDENTS

I am currently offering a service to build Linux Litecoin Mining Rigs for those of you based in the UK. This will involve you purchasing all the components and giving them to me. I will then build your Mining Rig. You then visit me to collect the Rig and I will show you the server working and demonstrate how to set it up. The cost for the custom build service is £200 cash paid when you collect the server. I can provide you with a list of components to buy if you are not sure.

Hi Bro!, could you post the cgminer config you are using?

I bought exactly those 2 cards and I´m having a lot a troubles to go above 400kh per card.

    thanks in advance!

This hardware is too expensive and unnecessary (like 8GB RAM, 2GB is enough). Sadly I have only R9 270x cards, but after PSU upgrade you can easily put there more powerful GPUs. You should consider making a gap between GPUs if it’s possible (which is for the config you pictured) for better cooling. Here is the config I use for dual GPU. 380-390W @ 920kh/s

    GIGABYTE GA-B85M-D3H
    INTEL Celeron G1610
    2* Gigabyte GV-R927XOC-2GD
    600W PSU, 2GB DDR3 RAM, SATA HDD/SSD

PS. xubuntu 13.04 after upgrade to 13.10 should work well with Gigabyte.

You are right as regards to the RAM. I have now reduced the amount of RAM in my mining rigs. You can use less RAM to reduce costs.
This was a quick test rig so normally you wouldnt place the 2 x GPU cards so close together. I was running this on in an open test case purely to test the hardware.

I’m sure you can also run the system with a later version of Ubuntu but I don’t think you gain anything by doing this.
